Examples of Outsourcing

Assuming, that you already know What Outsourcing Is and what The Benefits of Outsourcing are, we want to present you some examples of outsourcing services.

Most of you already use outsourcing services, and maybe not even know it. It is essential to bring some examples here.

Isn't is so much easier to:

  • have a bank account instead of collecting and storing the money by yourself
  • order a web hosting solution instead of investing in your own servers, bandwidth and hiring IT specialists etc.
  • order security services instead of hiring and coaching your own bodyguards
  • order cleaning services instead of hiring your own cleaners
  • use an accounting office instead of maintaining an accounting section in your company
  • rent an office space instead of building and administrating of your own buildings
  • order legal services instead of having legal section in your company
  • hire an advertising agency instead of creating an advertising section in your company

There are many more examples similar to these aforementioned and we are quite sure you can think of some more yourself.

A Real-Life Example

The grass of my lawn reaches up to my knees, and I have a barbecue birthday party the next day. I don't have time to mow the grass, due to a lot of far more important things to prepare. On the other hand, the grass must be trimmed, otherwise the party might fail.
The solution: I hire my neighbour's son, who works as a lawn-mower man to do the job. The effect?

I begin with the drawbacks. Well, actually only one drawback. I don't have satisfaction from having mown my lawn by myself. However the benefits of the solution certainly make this up:

  • I've managed to prepare the party right on time (time saving)
  • I concentrated on shopping and other preparations (focus on core business)
  • I was certain that my lawn will be well-trimmed, due to the boy's experience. I've had seen my neighbours lawns mown by him before (access to high degree of expertise)
  • I didn't have to clean the lawn-mower, rake the grass, or wash my dirty pants. My hired 'haymaker' took care of everything (no additional, unexpected commitments)
  • I payed the boy by the job, having the opportunity to trade a bit, however I was fully satisfied with the effects so I decided not to (payment for effects)
  • The boy proposed he can take care of my lawn on a regular basis, for a constant monthly fee. He will come with his own tools and fertilizers at specified hours and if I'm not fully satisfied with his work, he will give me back the money. I agreed of course, why to risk? (clear conditions of cooperation, guarantee of high quality services)
  • The party was superb. My boss came, had good time and even gave me a birthday bonus (the main goal has been reached)

This is a simple example of real-life outsourcing, which as You can see brings measurable benefits. The main advantage of this solution is naturally cost reduction. The company doesn't have to carry the costs of maintenance of its special section (i.e. IT section), because all the work is now done by the outside firm.

The example is based on the excerpts from www.eGospodarka.pl.
